Pure ladies power through midnight marathon

Pure ladies power through midnight marathon

After four months of gruelling weekend walks in preparation, seven determined women from Cambridge completed the Moonwalk London midnight marathon on Saturday [12 May] raising £2,000 for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.

The fundraising team, made up of recruitment experts from Pure Resourcing Solutions in Cambridge, completed the 26.2mile challenge organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk in eight hours.

The Pure Ladies team was made up of; Jade Garner, Caroline Batchelor, Gill Buchanan, Katherine Parkin, Jen Little, Joanna Bromwich and Susan Bellamy.

The group had been training since January to get themselves fighting fit and ready. The ladies were regularly seen hiking along the River Cam at weekends with a little extra help from three dutiful dogs who helped pull their owners and friends along the rambles.

Saturday night’s event was the fifteenth anniversary of the annual Walk the Walk challenge in which over 15,000 women and men unite against breast cancer and power walk the marathon route wearing the event’s trademark theme of decorated bras. This year’s theme was Rockin’ Around the World and the Pure ladies dressed for the occasion in leg warmers, tutus and bras decorated with records!

Having completed the walk, Caroline Batchelor said: “We are all extremely proud that we made it through and stayed as a team the entire route. Looking back now everything about it was fantastic and there was a great atmosphere. But there were some tough times along the way. The hardest bit was between 3am and 5am when the aches, pains and blisters seemed to take their toll. But when the sun came up it gave us all a second lease of life and helped us keep on marching towards the finish line.”

“This is the first year we have done the MoonWalk,” added Caroline. “We have tried to enter before but this year was the first time we have succeeded in getting a place. It’s fitting that we took part in a special anniversary year. We have anniversaries on our mind here in the office as in September Pure Resourcing Solutions will be celebrating its own ten year anniversary.”

Having originally set a target of raising £700, the Pure Ladies have smashed this and have so far have raised £2,000 for the breast cancer charity.  “We would like to thank everyone who supported and sponsored us.” added Caroline.
