We buy local - Pro bono client, September 2008 – December 2008
Client and background:
We Buy Local is a consumer-facing campaign by Buy Local, a social enterprise dedicated to supporting local businesses which offers member benefits through an accreditation programme.
Challenge:
To raise awareness of the benefits of shopping locally so that more people would do so, and to show local businesses that membership of Buy Local brought in more custom.
Solution:
We developed a ‘live locally’ challenge for a local journalist, designed to highlight the benefits and difficulties of trying to buy most products and services from local businesses. To run alongside the challenge was the Business in a Box competition offering locally-sourced prizes, showcasing the variety of goods and services on offer within the county. A press release challenging Norfolk people to try the challenge was also issued widely across all media in the county.
Results:
The ‘live locally’ challenge generated a double page feature in the Norwich Evening News and the challenge was broadcast on Radio Norwich, including an interview with Buy Local director, Nigel Dowdney.
