Tribe acquires new mascot

24 Sep 08

Patrick and Donna are delighted to announce that the agency is now the proud owner of Aimee Mimosa, lot 2 of 53 at last night's fantastic Go Elephants! charity auction.

The 53 elephants, decorated by artists and community groups, have spent the summer adorning the streets of Norwich in a vivid parade of creative talent. But with the colder months approaching, last night’s auction was held to find the elephants new, warmer homes for the winter and to raise money for charity.

Tribe’s managing director Patrick Peal and deputy managing director Donna Barker attended the event in the hope of gaining a new mascot for the office and Aimee immediately stood out because she is a very elegant Indian elephant who sports the Tribe colours! Luckily Patrick was the successful bidder and Aimee will soon be inaugurated as the latest member of the Tribe.

Patrick said: “We were part of a very special evening that helped raise over £200,000 for the Born Free elephant foundation in Kenya and for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. There was some incredible bidding with local artist Susan Gunn's elephant fetching a staggering £25,000....and one person went away having bought FIVE elephants!”

The auction was preceded by speeches from animal campaigner Virginia McKenna who founded the Born Free charity and Winnie Kiiru, one of Kenya's leading experts on elephants and manager of the Born Free Kenya office.

Patrick added: “After the auction we met Aimee Mimosa’s creator, artist Gina Woods, and a representative of our elephant's sponsor Aim Higher Norfolk – which, in a neat client link, is closely connected to the Learning and Skills Council. We hope to get Gina along to meet us soon so she can tell all the Tribe a bit more about Aimee Mimosa.”

Aimee has spent the summer at the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium Library but the Tribe hope that the newest recruit will be able to join them in the next couple of days…once transport has been arranged!
