Two Tribes go to war (on climate change)!
Two teams from Tribe will next week take part in an EcoDriving challenge organised by a group of Norfolk organisations, including May Gurney and Lotus.

The challenge was launched by Norfolk’s Jake Humphrey, who presents Formula 1 coverage for the BBC and put his own low-carbon driving skills to the test on an EcoDriving simulator at Lotus’ headquarters at Hethel.

Jake demonstrated some of the key EcoDriving principles which can improve the economy of a vehicle and result in a 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption.

The challenge takes place on March 9, 10 and 11 at The Forum in Norwich, where businesses will compete against each other to win a track day at Lotus.

Tribe will be represented by teams comprising managing director and deputy managing director Patrick Peal and Donna Chessum, together with account executive Lucy Clegg, and head of news Matt Ware will team up with account director Hannah Freeman and trainee account executive Mathew Waik.

As well as May Gurney and Lotus, the challenge is being organised by Shaping Norfolk’s Future, the county’s economic development partnership, publishers Archant Print and Norfolk County Council.

The competition aims to increase road safety, raise awareness of the financial savings that businesses can achieve by adopting the principles of EcoDriving and reduce transport-related carbon emissions within the county

Jake Humphrey welcomed 30 business guests to the launch event, saying: “This competition is a great way of encouraging businesses to save money and reduce their CO2 emissions. As a previous Norfolk resident, I think it is really important that we work together to ensure that it continues to be a great place to live and work.”

Ian Findlater, group business development director for May Gurney, added: “Reducing carbon emissions can create substantial savings for business. May Gurney is committed to leading our industry by reducing our carbon emissions by 50 per cent over three years, which will save our company £1 million.”

May Gurney operates a large fleet of vehicles throughout the country, delivering highways maintenance, utilities, environmental services, rail and facility services for 18 local authorities and clients in the regulated sectors.
