Run4Fun turns nine this year. And with the sponsored race taking place on the ninth day of the ninth month it proved easier than usual to pick the theme for 2010...999 emergency!
Entries are now open for the 2.5 mile run which takes place on Thursday 9 September 2010. Colchester Mayor, Cllr Sonia Lewis, joined forces with local police and firefighters to launch this year’s event.
The sponsored run, organised by Birkett Long solicitors, raises money for The Mayor of Colchester’s chosen charities. Over the past eight years, Run4Fun has contributed more than £61,000 to the charities, raising an average of £8,000 per year.
Jennie Skingsley, Run4Fun Coordinator at Birkett Long, said: “We really like to emphasise the fun element of Run4Fun, and this year’s emergency theme provides plenty of scope for people to have a laugh with their costumes. We hope to see plenty of police and firemen plus doctors and nurses running this year.
Jennie added: “We’ve had more than 500 people running in the past and we would love to beat this. You don’t have to be a serious athlete to enter; we encourage people of all ages and sporting abilities to take part. In particular we would like to challenge as many local businesses and schools to enter teams this year.”
The Tribe account team for Birkett Long, Patrick, Hannah and Dawn, are hoping to enter the race this year – once they’ve finally agreed who gets to wear which emergency costume!
