Dragon’s Den star Peter Jones has challenged enterprising youngsters in the east of England to make as much money as they can with a tenner in just one month.
Schools and colleges have until February 11 to register for the Make Your Mark with a Tenner competition, and secure a share of the £200,000 “tenner bank”.
The challenge, run by Enterprise UK and funded by its chairman Peter Jones and Bebo founders Michael and Xochi Birch, is open to anyone under 19.
Up to 20,000 young people will each be given a £10 note on March 1, from when they have one month to come up with creative, enterprising ideas to multiply their money and make a social impact. All £10 loans have to be returned at the end of the competition, but participants can keep their profits to develop their business idea or donate the money to a good cause.
Launching the competition, Peter Jones said: “The challenge empowers young people to make their ideas happen. We know that young people are increasingly concerned about the challenges society faces, and we’re aiming to show them that by acting on an enterprising idea, it is possible to make money and a real difference.”
Teachers and tutors can enter the competition on behalf of their school or college by completing an application form at
