AT Power will deliver a ‘fly-by-wire’ variant of their unique ‘shaftless’ throttle body for homologation in the World Rally Championships (WRC).
The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) throttle body will form part of the forced induction system on a new 1.6 litre World Rally Car, likely to launch in 2013.
AT Power’s shaftless throttle body design delivers more power, better torque and improved driveability than conventional throttle bodies by removing turbulence-generating restrictions of the shaft. The resulting improved airflow can either increase cylinder filling or allow a reduction in the throttle body size for better throttle progression.
The unit uses a dual-action Penny & Giles Hall-effect throttle position sensor and can operate in temperatures up to 200 deg C.
The body and throttle plate are machined in-house from billet aluminium and anodised. First deliveries are due by the end of this year.
Paul Spinks of AT Power is delighted that his company’s throttle systems will appear in the WRC:
“This is recognition at the highest level of the performance and quality of our shaftless throttle systems and demonstrates that we can deliver for low and medium volume applications.”
